SOPA Blackout

Well our SOPA blackout protest is over! The site went dark for over 20 hours (midnight to 9PM) to help raise awareness about the SOPA/PIPA legislation that they’re trying to force through.

Hopefully you guys had a chance to check out some of the information on our blackout page and took the time to contact your local Senator, but if not be sure to stop by AmericanCensorship.org to learn more about these internet crippling bills and what you can do to help prevent them from being passed!

Never leave me again, Halolz!

2. superdrama on January 18th, 2012 9:26 pm

The single greatest and most important thing Halolz has ever done.

3. Alpar on January 18th, 2012 9:27 pm

It never left you…

it was just taken away by Amurrika.

Which is really sad cause we're the land of freedom.

4. UndeadLex on January 18th, 2012 9:27 pm

Can't let you ██ that ███████.

5. RespectfulGlove on January 18th, 2012 9:28 pm

Whatever asshole thought SOPA was a good idea, I hope he dies a death of 1000 blue shells. I could never stand to see a community like you guys be torn apart.

His name is Lamar Smith and he likes long walks on the beach, and HEAVILY pissing off an entire generation of people.

7. Skrist on January 18th, 2012 9:35 pm

"AMERICA, FUCK YEAH, McDONALDS- FUCK YEAH, SOPA- FUCK… yeah?"

8. Jimmy on January 18th, 2012 9:37 pm

SOPA and/or PIPA: FUCK NO!!!

9. Skrist on January 18th, 2012 9:37 pm

I was trying to find something with Wolf and Sopa, but failed.
Will this suffice?

10. primedawg9170 on January 18th, 2012 9:38 pm

Don't forget to buy your pitchforks and torches at your local angry mob store when you go and hunt this guy down!

11. Uzumakiclan43 on January 18th, 2012 9:39 pm

Good news is, the amount of senators opposed to SOPA and PIPA practically quadrupled as a result of this- according to OpenCongress, before everyone shut their websites down, only five senators opposed SOPA and PIPA to 35 who supported it. Now it jumped to 30 nays against 35 yays (and this is before the bills go up for vote), as well as a grand total of 102 organizations (102 for each bill) who have expressed outright disgust.

And it's all because we stuck through with the blackout. Can I get a mass "Whoop, whoop"?

(by the way, for a full list of opposing groups, go here: http://www.opencongress.org/bill/112-h3261/money )"

I thank you Halolz for participating the blackout.
This bill needs to be destroyed.

Fun fact: VGCats also participated in the blackout.

13. Hyze on January 18th, 2012 9:40 pm

I sure am glad that I didn't have to write any last minute reports today.

14. Skrist on January 18th, 2012 9:41 pm

Fun fact: There is nowhere near the amount of facepalms in the world to equal all the stupidity that SOPA and PIPA produced.

BONUS FACTS: Anyone ever watch the Party Rock Anthem music video? It has copyrighted cars in it. Watch the Hangover II lately? No? Some other movie probably has billboards with products owned by other companies though. Hypocrisy: America Haz Them.

15. The AntiVillain on January 18th, 2012 9:41 pm

i found it easier just signing the online petition i'm pretty sure if you google it will show up

16. Jimmy on January 18th, 2012 9:44 pm

LOL "Online petition" now prevented by…the very thing you were trying to prevent.

17. Skrist on January 18th, 2012 9:44 pm

So did The Oatmeal.

But VGCats had a good one too. :P

What about turning pizza into a vegetable? Pretty damn close man…

20. Dash12345678 on January 18th, 2012 9:46 pm

I was glad Halolz participated in the blackout, but thanks for the heads-up, Shawn. >:U

21. Dycro on January 18th, 2012 9:46 pm

If this bill passes it's just another piece of evidence that our Congress has its head so far up its ass it could kiss the back of its own teeth.

22. Jimmy on January 18th, 2012 9:47 pm

<img src="http://chzmemebase.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/internet-memes-sopa.jpg" length=" 400'=" '="" width="400">

I found that amusing.

23. SuperPinkiePie on January 18th, 2012 9:47 pm

Scumbag Lamar Smith: Writes bill to censor copyrighted material on the internet, uses photograph on his website without the photographer's knowledge.
Source: http://www.vice.com/read/lamar-smith-sopa-copyrig…

24. AdeptIsaac on January 18th, 2012 9:48 pm

Equestria Daily as well. More or less, I suppose. While Seth was tied up, we had The Great and Powerful Trixie to keep us company.

25. AdeptIsaac on January 18th, 2012 9:48 pm

*Tips hat*

Well done, Shawn. Well done indeed.

No █████████ in the ████████ is going to ████ me!

27. Skrist on January 18th, 2012 9:57 pm

Which reminds me to ask someone on the intertubes.
If you have pepperoni and/or sausage on a pizza, is it a vegetable as well?

28. Skrist on January 18th, 2012 9:58 pm

THE BEST THING I HAVE SEEN ALL FUCKING WEEK!!

29. Skrist on January 18th, 2012 9:59 pm

It was the best Drawfriend ever today.

30. Guppy on January 18th, 2012 10:00 pm

Note:

SOPA (H.R. 3261) is the House version. The people there are called "representatives" or "congressmen/congresswomen."

PIPA (S. 968) is the Senate version. Those are the people who are called "senators."

If you're going to be sending angry, frothing messages, make sure you complain about the right bill to the right people.

31. Skrist on January 18th, 2012 10:02 pm

And sadly, SEGA supports the ESA who supports SOPA and PIPA.
Great people making stupid choices…

Also I'm pretty sure if companies get enough emails from fans that are annoyed at something about/in a game and fix the problems, they will definitely listen to them if it is about their consumer's possibility to protest buying their games and attending/reporting about E3.

32. Seanhl on January 18th, 2012 10:04 pm

I actually used it to write a last minute report, hooray for a class built entirely around current event assignments

33. Skrist on January 18th, 2012 10:06 pm

Did you notice what I did? The Supporting congressmen/women have more money supporting them than the opposition.
Someone once said to me that you cannot buy people- is it foul play if I call bullshit now?

Also, I see Walmart in the supporters list… What the fuck do they gain if it passes?

34. Seanhl on January 18th, 2012 10:08 pm

well, if it's passed, couldn't they just bring it to the supreme court, I mean if that doesn't qualify as infringing free speech, I'm moving to China, where at least they are honest about stomping out people's rights

35. dwarfyz on January 18th, 2012 10:09 pm

C-C-C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER

36. Shawn Handyside on January 18th, 2012 10:19 pm

It's more impactful when it's a surprise, right?

37. dwarfyz on January 18th, 2012 10:23 pm

That saucy image was too much, through. I had to close the tab in 0.1 seconds.

38. Dash12345678 on January 18th, 2012 10:30 pm

VGCats participated in the blackout. But only the six people who checked for an update today knew that prior to this post.

39. Jimmy on January 18th, 2012 10:35 pm

My friend Steve would disagree. He tried using Wikipedia today…the poor bastard. We then had to explain to him via text and Facebook about how politics works and we had to remind him that Wikipedia isn't really a good academic source to begin with…(keep in mind, this guy is a junior in college like I am). Bottom line, he didn't care and was pissed at Wikipedia, not SOPA and PIPA (although, after a MUCH longer talk session, we somehow convinced him to be pissed off at all three).

40. Deep Thought on January 18th, 2012 10:51 pm

And I thought us college students were supposed to care about this…

Better get all your pirating out of your system now, guys.

41. Deep Thought on January 18th, 2012 10:53 pm

This…

On the topic of never updating…

NEW CIVIL PROTECTION!!!

42. MasterLuigi452 on January 18th, 2012 10:57 pm

There were so many non saucy + funny pics though…

43. Lord_Science on January 18th, 2012 11:09 pm

Meh, I'm just going to make him bald with my orbital laser. I have to be careful though, one slight miscalculation could result in no head at all. Not sure if anyone would notice.

44. TheInsaneWombat on January 18th, 2012 11:12 pm

I can't think of something witty, so I default to Novus-ism. 4chan is dickbutts.

Edit: Waitaminute. I wrote SOPA. Somebody been haxorzing my account!

Or maybe I just accidentally typed in 4chan because I was going to write 4chan-ism instead of Novus-ism. Whoopsiedaisie!

45. Lord_Science on January 18th, 2012 11:13 pm

I usually just refer to them as dumbasses. It's close enough.

46. Skrist on January 18th, 2012 11:56 pm

No, now you're being offensive to the dumbasses. Politicians tend to be called freedom wreckers.

47. AManWithACloak on January 19th, 2012 12:03 am

Did you use the downtime to work on the forums?

48. Dash12345678 on January 19th, 2012 12:14 am

When you say 'get it out of your system', do you mean do it now before SOPA/PIPA make it impossible, or do you mean to wipe it from our system before SOPA/PIPA send law enforcement to take us to jail for five years?

49. AManWithACloak on January 19th, 2012 12:26 am

I swear to the Goddesses that if that little comment on the bottom of the page comes true…
I WILL find you.
And you WILL regret it.

50. BTSnoogans on January 19th, 2012 1:44 am

Aw, man. I didn't see EQDaily during the blackout.

51. VyseRogueKing on January 19th, 2012 1:46 am

SHAWN! It was horrible! The internet was blacked out and I had to go out into the place the people called the "Real World." It was so cold and lonely out there with no sense of humor! I'm not sure I can reintegrate back into internet society. The time out there changed me.

52. BTSnoogans on January 19th, 2012 1:48 am

Shawn, I hope you never have to black out Halolz again. Without Halolz, I had to go to other websites. Have you ever been to other websites? They're scary. There was like, a bunch of naked people and stuff and I didn't know what was going on.

53. Paulrus-Keaton? on January 19th, 2012 2:05 am

I liked the Chrono Trigger reference you had on the page.
Even though I had to look it up.

54. vash_ts on January 19th, 2012 5:11 am

Can´t let you Brew that sopa!

55. GanjalfTheGreen on January 19th, 2012 7:16 am

But you can see it now, can't you? http://www.equestriadaily.com/2012/01/sopapipatri…
It's not like it getting censored in nearest future anyway, hehehe-ehhh…

56. Valvatorez on January 19th, 2012 7:22 am

Stupid Humans! Instead of wasting their efforts creating these stupid laws, why don't they use it to something more useful, like researching the power of Sardines!?

57. VJoe10[8] on January 19th, 2012 7:55 am

You could actually still use Wikipedia by adding an "m" to the link to access the mobile site through your browser, although I'm sure not a lot of people cared to find out and they were just really pissed at Wikipedia instead.

58. Deep Thought on January 19th, 2012 8:29 am
59. wolfpax181 on January 19th, 2012 11:24 am

All my internetz belong to the person that made that, though for sharing that, I'm giving you some of them.

60. BTSnoogans on January 19th, 2012 1:23 pm

Oh. I figured by now its version of the blackout would be over like everyone else's version of the blackout. Actually, I think explosm is still blacked out.

61. TheInsaneWombat on January 19th, 2012 3:51 pm

Yes.

62. TheInsaneWombat on January 19th, 2012 3:52 pm

Or, recently, Dickbutts.

63. pokemon_girl on January 20th, 2012 7:48 pm

Keep calm and play videogames
