Actually, they can. It's just that the Mac beta launcher isn't available publicly because…well..it's a beta. You can, however, download it via google search/torrent, if you don't mind questionable legality. Just saying, it exists. Technically.

Yeah, you're right, the guy that can blow up a planet nonchalantly should obviously be concerned with a metal shard from a broken scouter.
Well honestly, energy attacks seem pretty ineffective against anything organic, mostly only being of use for clearing away weaklings, missing and destroying scenery, and just creating dramatic smoke.
Physical attacks are the way to go.
