Makes you wonder about confuse ray… is it so powerful that Pokemon actually think they’re supposed to hit themselves? Or are they just so dumb that being commanded to hit themselves is perfectly reasonable?

If I was kept in a ball by the likes of Ash, I'd probably hit myself a lot too. Just saying.
Herp derp derp

Personally, I always thought confusion caused pokemon to be dazed, so that when attempting to use an attack, they would either trip and fall over, hurting themselves, or whatever energy (if it's a special attack) would backfire and blow up in their face, like that scene in Avatar: The Last Airbender when they hit Combustion Man in the face with a rock and then when he tried to use his mind blast thingy it blew him up.
My favorite part is when it gets confused for the maximum amount of turns and hits itself EVERY TIME. The computer never cheats, that'd be silly!
I remeber in the anime they would think they would hit the pokemon, but they'd be hitting the floor or a nearby wall.
Wait, this is halolz, the site of funniness! so ignore my comic and enjoy the following gif.
…
which i don't know how to put up here….
The path to truth begins with one simple question: Why are you hitting yourself? Why are you hitting yourself?
A level 4 Haunter? I call hax.
Because That's not Ash, maybe?
COMMON SENSE.
This comic can't clearly represent how accurate Pokemon is. I mean just LOOK at that Haunter's level! Don't you artists know anything?!
I must have been hit by that confuse ray, it looks to me like that Haunter is lvl 4!
At lease it's not a freaking zubat!
In all seriousness, I always envisioned a confused Pokemon was spinning around and had become very nauseated, to the degree that they couldn’t even see what the hell it was doing. As such, it either got lucky and hit the other Pokemon, or it fell down and thus damaged itself in its fall.
At least, that’s how I figured it…
If I remember correctly, Ash's Charmander evolves into Charizard. A really, really lazy Charizard.
Stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself!
In my opinion, the trainers are stupid.
If Pokemons are confused, why not just tell them with some extra description?
Say "Use Ember on that Haunter!"
……….oh right.
They are 10…
Yes Charmander, hit yourself until i am pleased by your pain.
I didn't draw this, but:

Dude, that command was confusing…i don't know what uuuuuuuusssse embeeeeeer means….
I propose a solution. If your pokemon is confused just tell it, "Hit yourself!" It'll hit the other pokemon in it's confusion. Super Effective.
Hmmm… reverse psychology. Charmander, hit yourself in the face!
You best harvest some Persim Berries.
Pokemon are obviously incredibly stupid creatures. Despite basically being walking natural disasters and having sentience on par with a human, they still allow themselves to be pit fighters for eleven year olds.

"Milktank used Milk Drink!"
*Miltank carefully lifts the glass of milk up to its lips, then smashes it into its forehead*
"Milktank Hurt itself in its confusion!"
Of course! It's the perfect plan! Hitting myself will raise my adrenaline to a point that I will be unstoppable! My trainer is brilliant! FOR GLORY!
