It takes a lot of work to recreate the architecture from an anime series, but it takes a freakin’ SHIT TON of work to recreate worlds from several Miyazaki films!

I remember when I was a young lad and my brother and I would stay up all saturday nights to watch Miyazakis films, so this means a lot to me… *snigh* Give me a second… *snigh*

  5. Bobomberman on May 14th, 2011 7:00 pm

I am a bit remiss as well since Princess Mononoke and Grave of the Fireflies are missing… Though I suppose bloody battles and children deaths would not have fit with these more happy films :o (though that doesn't make this any less amazing).

  6. MoG on May 14th, 2011 7:13 pm

It's clips like these that make me wish i had the time to do something like this. Or least the motivation…

Soldier: Now THAT is what I wanna see!

  8. CriticalQuit on May 14th, 2011 7:25 pm

    I don't watch any anime, but…

I hope this was more than one person. The amount of time it would take a single person to do all this is probably longer than how long Minecraft has been out.

  9. Nyoron on May 14th, 2011 7:39 pm

This…..cannot be described with words! Such detail! The Moving Castle…The Castle In The Sky…and the Bathhouse from Spirited Away! I was moved to…*sniff*….tears it was so beautifal. Congrats to whoever made this work of Minecraft art.

If Heaven exists as I hope it does. This is what it would look like.

  12. NekoKnight on May 14th, 2011 7:55 pm

Where did he get all the reference material for it!? This would have Miyazaki himself going "Daaaayum, why didn't I think of that?"

  13. shadow649 on May 14th, 2011 7:58 pm

I liked the cow at 1:30. It was great.

This is a question for Shawn. Why can't we have nice things?

  27. Nick Soapdish on May 14th, 2011 11:18 pm

With Grave of the Fireflies I'm sure you could remake the cave and then proceed to die from malnutrition.

Also yay for including Porco Rosso.

  28. seanhl on May 14th, 2011 11:41 pm

Then THEY show up, the horde, their phallic faces showing no emotion whatsoever, these devil spawn seemingly immune to guilt or fear charge straight at you ruining the structure of this majesty, and just when you think the unthinkable, they're slowing down, clouds suddenly darken the sky, making your once beautiful world seemingly cry in pain, but it's symbolism is immediately broken by thunder cracks, the loud echoing booms are now foreshadowing what is to become of this once utopian city. The lightning strikes a few yards away, it hits one of the causes of this disaster. At first you think it will at least take one out, so your kingdom could claim to have resisted the onslaught, even if it was fruitless, then you look again, to your horror the phallic monster has seemingly absorbed the power the Greeks believed was held by Zeus, he has become a god. He approaches you and you know their is no bother trying to run, the last thing you hear is the sound of a serpent approaching its next meal…

…anyways, nice job with the city and all that

  29. smartmonkey on May 14th, 2011 11:41 pm

If game and art had a child, it would look like this.

"If building will result in victory than you must BUILD!
Tsun Zu said that, and I think he knows a bit more about Minecrafting that YOU do, pal, 'cause he invented it!"

  32. Alpar on May 15th, 2011 12:21 am

So Tsun Zu is Notch… fascinating…

  33. Pioneer1 on May 15th, 2011 12:26 am

The future addition of maps has people thinking about uses for Books. Some hope it will eventually be possible to write books in Minecraft eventually….
I can't wait to see "The Art of Minecrafting"

  34. Krugun on May 15th, 2011 12:42 am

When you can unconsciously recognize something, they did the job damn well. Immediately noticed the different locations from Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away and Totoro (spelled it wrong…I think) just to name a few.

Give this man the Platinum Pickaxe Award, he deserves it C:

I feel like I should make a comic or something, like a creeper comes across it and turns away, for it is too beautiful to destroy, or vice versa.

  35. TalkingBidoof on May 15th, 2011 1:10 am

I think I know which one "Castle in the Sky" is.

    Almost one-hundred percent sure.

  46. Jimmy on May 15th, 2011 11:42 am

It's okay man. There's a LOT of cool shit to go around. It's a BIG planet we dwell on. I'm compelled to watch more Miyazaki films now to make my summer (which began yesterday) SUPER SPECIAL AWESOME. I've only seen Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro (that movie is my all time favorite), and Spirited Away. I want to see more now because of the epic scenery I just laid my eyes upon.

Also, for those of you that don't know, Totoro is featured in Toy Story 3. I nearly crapped myself when I saw him. I'm like:
(O_O) "Dude, is that who I think it is?"
    My Buddy: "Who?"
    Me:"Totoro"
    Both of us:"HOLY SH***!!!"

    Ah…

  47. ProfessorLuigi on May 15th, 2011 12:01 pm

Vice versa? What do you mean? A building comes by a creeper, but the creeper is so beutiful the building turns away?

  48. Jimmy on May 15th, 2011 12:07 pm

…because Shawn worships Courage Kratos and not the Church of the Falcon.

  49. Inky Blue on May 15th, 2011 12:45 pm

Wha-what is this strange sensation in my chest? …I…I think my heart is beating again… Oh, thank you! thank you OZ WORKSHOP!

  51. MasqueNoMercy on May 15th, 2011 1:11 pm

good thing i searched for someone to say this before i posted it

  52. seanhl on May 15th, 2011 1:26 pm

you have to be VERY SPECIFIC HughbertEsq when you tell someone to give someone OTHER than yourself thumbs up. (Learned that one the hard way.) For your sake I'll say this, people he meant me, so no giving him thumbs down, okay

  53. Virlunae on May 15th, 2011 1:38 pm

    No words… can't describe it… they should have sent a poet…

  54. HughbertEsq on May 15th, 2011 4:09 pm

Thanks mate, when I saw this and its undeserving LACK of thumbs I had to rally the people around…

  55. HughbertEsq on May 15th, 2011 4:16 pm

    Gentlemen…
We have discovered not only the Ultimate in Eye-Bleach, but one of the few reliable means of achieving total and insoluble Peace and Harmony through the work of a video-game.
Our work is over, for now…

  56. seanhl on May 15th, 2011 4:58 pm

thanks for the effort, but don't try to force people to +1 anyone else, it's just too hard to not sound like your begging for yourself to get 'em

  57. bawkbawkboo1 on May 15th, 2011 5:12 pm

Does anyone have a link to the full version of the music that starts around 1:14? I know what movie it's from but I can't find the music.

  62. Skandradron on May 15th, 2011 10:09 pm

I know it is completely beside the point of the video but… 2:05 *Ahem* And on some clear nights, young trainer, you can see a few of the legendary Sky Wailords searching endlessly for their lost love known to us as 'Skitty', and they will continue searching till the end of time…

  63. tstriker1 on May 16th, 2011 9:46 am

    OZWORKSHOP is my god…

  64. tstriker1 on May 16th, 2011 9:54 am

I'm now very sad because the site for downloading this map…is in Korean TT__TT http://blog.naver.com/nolera/70108297219

  65. Krugun on May 17th, 2011 4:23 am

Yeah, now that I look at it, it does sounds tremendously redonkulous….I meant more that the creeper can't help himself and is forced to destroy it, because it's so beautiful. Sort of like when the pyro sees an anthro-con and gets teary eyed.

  66. Wilton14 on May 30th, 2011 2:20 am

Miyazaki probably couldn't even do this himself.
