    I mean, he used a normal or fighting type move on a grass/poison! That's not super effective!

    For one of the top pokemon trainers in the world, im surprised you don't know about ev training and the fact rare candies actually hinder a pokemon's ev growth.

    What are you talking about? They could be on a mountain. Also, Red didn't challenge anybody. He just moved all the hair on his head to the mustache area and got himself some rare candies. Then that other trainer challenged Red. The rest is history.

    Actually, they don't. while you may not get the EVs from battling normally, if you supplement the rare candies with vitamin drinks they'll turn out just fine.

    I think Red sucks more. Who the hell would use a Grass type when it's snowing? This clearly indicates that all nearby trainers will be utilizing Ice type Pokemon. Unless he seriously needs to level-up Venusaur, he's just wasting the time he could be spending on a mountain.

    It works, but there's something you missed: Pokemon do not earn effort points if they do not earn experience points. Which means, you must finish your EV training BEFORE you level up to 100.
