The sad thing is, my old college roommate actually did play through the original Zelda (getting all the way to Ganon) without getting a sword. It’s a thing you can actually do! Talk about hard mode. Of course you do need to pick up a few items other than just the “smashing board!”

    So what?

I can kill over a million puppies in under twelve seconds…without a sword.or any sort of weapon.

I just sort of smile at them.

Psh, break that against the nearest hard surface and you've got yourself a new set of brass knuckles.

Or porcelain knuckles in this case.

Spanky Smashy counts as defence… right?

And thus the legendary Smashing Board was placed in the new Temple of Crushed Bones, after the legendary sword was thrown out. Some say that -like the source of ultimate power- it was thrown into a recycling bin and made a really nice drink can.

And next you'll tell me that in borderlands you were supposed to get a gun? Hahahahaha I thought the knife and the throwable eagle were the main weapons. No wonder it was so damn hard.
