Can’t let you do that, Guy Fawkes.

Zabuza is good (with his obscure English history references), but I’m better!

Can’t let you do that, Guy Fawkes.

Did I ever mention I love this song?

I hope we get more StarWolf submissions. :D

  2. Ghost on April 30th, 2008 11:27 am

    I gotta say, not impressed.

  3. Dan on April 30th, 2008 11:35 am
  4. MushroomBoy on April 30th, 2008 11:39 am

i love these. the subtitle thing is jsut as good as the one in the pic.

  5. Rodrigo on April 30th, 2008 11:56 am

I think this will generate more clones. Anyways, this is a good one!

  6. Mike on April 30th, 2008 12:53 pm

this is a jeopardy level lol… you laugh, you learn, we all come away better people

  7. Selv on April 30th, 2008 1:02 pm

You get points for the obscure Vendetta reference, but Wolf stands out too much in that picture. I think it would’ve been better if you had tried to make him look like he was part of the picture.

  8. killercartoons on April 30th, 2008 1:26 pm

@Selv, yeah that would be cool

i just hope this doesn’t lead to more clones because it can only go down hill from here

  9. john on April 30th, 2008 1:28 pm

lol, wtf is a guy fawkes? French people are so retarded!

  10. Personae Non Gratae on April 30th, 2008 2:29 pm

    >:O

  11. Scott on April 30th, 2008 2:33 pm

I thought the Starbucks one was wittier. This one was pretty good, but I can see a meme forming in the distant future.

  12. Scott on April 30th, 2008 2:34 pm

Oh boy…I don’t like where this is going………..OVER 9000 bad memes later.

  13. Red on April 30th, 2008 3:04 pm

I like this just because it’s a pun AND a historical reference. Maybe if we only accpeted one of these a year the joke could stay funny.

  14. Crest on April 30th, 2008 3:11 pm

@ John: Obscure ENGLISH History references…

Basically, him trying to suicide bomb the King gave us November 5th, our (original) version of the 4th of July Fireworks and fires and stuff… the joke would work better without the Guy I think, but still pretty damn LOL.

  15. S on April 30th, 2008 3:16 pm

    fawke youuuu

  16. Boreas on April 30th, 2008 4:15 pm

@Crest: Yeah… It would have been more smooth-sounding with just “Fawkes”

  17. Haywire on April 30th, 2008 5:57 pm

Why all the “I can’t let you do that” ones lately?

  18. Stephen on April 30th, 2008 6:04 pm

Video game characters always makes British history better.

  19. sir_auronDX on April 30th, 2008 6:07 pm

    ahhh yess

  20. sir_auronDX on April 30th, 2008 6:09 pm

guy fawkes wanted to blow up parliment
Guy:IM GOING TO PLANT THE BOMB
Although someone tipped off guards and they found and caught him…star wolf must have been on duty…then he was executed

  21. L L + P on April 30th, 2008 6:18 pm

I hardly think it’s obscure. I mean, it was only a plan to blow up parliment. The man was hung, drawn and quartared. His head was outside the tower for over a year. The idea of burning a ‘guy’ on a bonfire is named after him. Theres not a Brit alive who doesn’t know Guy Fawkes. Just because the US doesn’t have it, doesn’t make it obscure, just american ignorant.

Man, that sounds really accusatory, it’s not meant to be, but I’m not keen on my history being degraded. Especially when we have so much more of it that america.

As for the pic, I like it. The fawkes/fox pun is cool. Nice to see a clever one going on the British reference.

  22. AustN on April 30th, 2008 6:24 pm

Good, but not as good as Starbucks

  23. Kain on April 30th, 2008 6:27 pm

Someone set us up a bomb o.O?

  24. Personae Non Gratae on April 30th, 2008 6:28 pm

    @L L + P
Just becuase it’s well known in England and obscure in American doesn’t mean we’re ignorant. There’s plenty of obscure American people, facts and dates you Brits would have no clue about but that doesn’t make you ignorant. A little compassion and empathy will get you a long way my friend. ;-)

  25. Skyler on April 30th, 2008 6:33 pm

Remember, remember, the fifth of November!

Extra bonus points for referencing obscure (to us Americans, as L L + P pointed out) history that inspired a semi-obscure book that inspired an underrated movie!

  26. g.c. on April 30th, 2008 7:21 pm

    lol, I love wierd references.

  27. smashpro1 on April 30th, 2008 8:01 pm

It’s not obscure to me because I watched V for Vendetta

  28. Zabuza on April 30th, 2008 8:03 pm

    Lol, thanks guys.

I’m American, by the by; I just thought this was a classic reference.

@selv, yeah I know. I couldn’t figure out a shadow that would work with the old timey background.

@Crest and Boreas, I was told it was pronounced “Ghee”, kinda like G in girl and a long e sound.

  29. Ryumaru on April 30th, 2008 8:08 pm

Crap! I’m trying to think of a barrel roll joke here… can someone help me?

  30. Captain Obvious on April 30th, 2008 8:41 pm

Really there’s not much to a barrel roll joke, unless you’re playing donkey kong or something

  31. smashpro1 on April 30th, 2008 8:59 pm

    Barrels of gunpowder?

  32. Paulrus on April 30th, 2008 9:17 pm

Was the Starbucks one the beginning of a new meme?

  33. Kevin J. on April 30th, 2008 9:17 pm

This one was pretty funny, but I still like the Starbucks one a bit better..

  34. Flagman on April 30th, 2008 9:52 pm

FAWKES! THERE’S A BOMB IN THE BASE!

  35. Rodrigo on April 30th, 2008 9:55 pm

Do a barrel (of gunpownder) roll!

  36. Gaudion on April 30th, 2008 10:48 pm

I’m sorry, but this one blows the other one away. Full of win.

  37. deth2gerbilz on May 1st, 2008 1:21 am

    Warning: meme under construction

  38. Shew on May 1st, 2008 1:58 am

I like them both, but this is much more win than the Bucks one…

  39. Yoshara on May 1st, 2008 5:12 am

Wolf is everywere making sure people can’t do things.

  40. FrEEz on May 1st, 2008 8:44 am

Hehe, that was the LAST thing i expected on halolz. Still great though. I need to think up one of these…

    5 stars

  41. killercartoons on May 1st, 2008 9:12 am

    @smashpro1,
    barr-rolls of gunpowder?

  42. Memoriam on May 1st, 2008 9:18 am

Someone set up us the bomb. (someone had to say it)

  43. john on May 1st, 2008 1:50 pm

    wtf is a parliament?

I stand by what I said when I said French people are retarded.

  44. Passerby on May 1st, 2008 2:54 pm

    @John

    First off, It’s English.
Secondly, No one appreciates your flaming of the French.

    Au revoir, mon ami.

  45. Crest on May 1st, 2008 5:05 pm

    @ John: … what is a parliament?
It’s a British version of Congress (if you ask what a congress is I’m gonna have to ask where your from)

@ Zabuza: I wasn’t around in the 16th century but I’m fairly confident we still said it Guy like “Guh-Eye” (that was hard to work out >_>). Ghee Fawkes woulda flowed better though, I agree, so I see where it was coming from.

  46. FrEEz on May 1st, 2008 9:31 pm

@ Crest : When i got taught about Guy Fawkes in school, i remember our teacher telling us that’s where the word ‘Guy’ came from, so i doubt it was ‘Ghee Fawkes’. Seriously if it was, then who was smoking what when they decided that ‘Guy’ will be pronounced ‘Ghee’

  47. Zabuza on May 1st, 2008 11:00 pm

Well, I heard about the story from a teacher who was French. Perhaps that’s why; regardless, it’s how I thought of it.

Doesn’t really matter.. it works both ways.

  48. killercartoons on May 2nd, 2008 12:14 pm

@Memoriam, haha, i just thought of that! nice

also, whats the big deal? personally i didnt get the ref right away, (never really liked history) but i figured it out and it was good! still like the starbucks one (a little) better though

  49. john on May 8th, 2008 12:56 pm

What? Britan is a monarchy retard. Its not democratic, we invented that.

  50. Zabuza on May 8th, 2008 7:11 pm

Actually, John, the democratic system started with the ancient Greeks.

Britain is a parlimentary system with a figurehead monarchy.

  51. Hallo on May 19th, 2008 7:44 pm

Don’t bother saying that, John won’t be able to figure it out.
They’re exactly the same as the US but they’ve got a Queen that doesn’t do anything important = parliamentary system w/ figurehead monarchy.

Unfunny pretense of idiocy is unfunny.

And if it’s not a pretense, wow.

  52. Nubnut on May 27th, 2008 10:33 am

*facepalm* oh John, what are we going to do with you and your lack of knowledge of political systems.

Anyway, 5 stars for the witty history reference, but damn this picture at the same time for the spawn of meme’s that have come from this and the starbucks picture.

  53. john on May 31st, 2008 9:21 am

I’m not a f**king idiot. What am I supposed to think if they put a Queen up?

  54. Zabuza on July 31st, 2008 9:58 pm

    This is still heroic.
