Choosing the right guitar is all up to you. After trying out various types at the music shop you should be able to find the right one. You don't want a really cheap guitar (too many problems), nor do you want an extremely pricey guitar (you may not like playing and all that money will be wasted). If you're on a budget, you can find some good used guitars.

The main things you want to look for when buying a guitar is intonation (the notes stay in tune), sustainability (how long each note rings before fading), and action (how high the strings are from the fretboard). You also want to find a guitar that's comfortable to play. A music shop employee will gladly help you out.
