Mario may have set the standard for crushing things, but when it comes to getting the job done, Crash is a little bit more of a perfectionist. Via Psy and Dave.

…I don't watch tv anymore. Did Crash Bandicoot become a Looney Toon while I was gone?

  2. Umbreon 0 on July 16th, 2013 3:08 pm

No, but I think I saw him on MTV the other day- He got all tattoo'd up and I'm almost certain he's been smoking something lately.

  3. Earl the Lemon on July 16th, 2013 4:12 pm

Naw, he's the Wipe out champion.

  4. xxxxxxtheundeadcat on July 16th, 2013 10:31 pm

Why didn't he just throw something at it? I feel like that would have been much easier.

  5. Porecomesis on July 16th, 2013 10:52 pm

I have a better question: why did he spawn AFTER the box rather than at the previously hit Checkpoint box?

  6. Porecomesis on July 16th, 2013 10:52 pm

Compared to me, Crash is showing restraint.

Another "Moment of Nostalgia Day" with Jimmy (A MON-day if you will):

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back got me INTO Crash Bandicoot. God…so much fun…it's even more fun when you play with your siblings and the rule is that if you die, you pass the controller. I had the longest turns ever lol. I bossed that game up until Floor 25 (the space floor). It was mega hard and my turns didn't last long enough for me to finish the levels (my half-siblings sucked all the lives out of our stock). Man…the polar bear runs were SO MUCH FUN. RUN BITCH RUN!!! XD

Don't even get me started on Crash Team Racing…I had a FIERCE rivalry with my younger half-brother.

Does anyone know if I can play those games on the PS4's like, online e-shop? I REALLY want to play those again and I plan to buy a PS4 soon.

  26. Jimmy on July 17th, 2013 3:27 pm

Here's some food for thought: The Doctor's regeneration cycles are like that of the face of a clock. So I wonder just how many re-generations he REALLY has…12, 24, or that really odd number, 507?

Matt Smith being the 11th Doctor and is said to die in the Christmas episode.

Thirteen is supposed to be the normal limit. In fact, the thirteenth regeneration is said to be usually mentally unstable. In past storylines a possible future Doctor called the Valeyard showed up as an antagonist, and was supposedly a combination of #11 and #12's memories or something like that. The Doctor has commented in the past that he still feels "older and older" as he regenerates more even if the new body is younger physically.

The Master completely broke the limit of thirteen in the semi-canon TV movie by possessing human bodies, and later by manually reconstructing his (new?) Time Lord body, which had regenerated, which was sabotaged by his wife. The last we saw of The Master was that his body was still unstable and likely dying, but he leaped into the time-locked Gallifrey so there's still more than a chance he'll survive somehow but he'd probably need a new body again. It's also possible that since only three different versions of the Master showed up in the classic series, the "last" version of The Master could pre-date the TV movie version; time travel and all that. But the only fact that the series acknowledges about the TV movie is that version of the Doctor did exist, but the events aren't necessarily true. Especially since the mass history-erasing/rewriting event in series 5, so maybe the Master never ran out of regenerations after all, but now I'm drifting too far into speculation.

Then, of course, there's River Soong whose storyline revealed ("Spoilers!") that regeneration is based on exposure to the Time Vortex rather than being exclusive to Gallifreyans. This actually makes sense with previous Time Lord based stories explaining that Gallifreyans aren't considered Time Lords until they gain a Tardis and regenerate once. Presumably human bodies aren't quite as good at regeneration since she only regenerated a couple times before using up her "last" regeneration to revive the doctor instead of keeping it for herself.

What doesn't make sense in this context is the entire Doctor's Daughter episode, but we haven't heard anything about that since and I think the current writers are trying to forget it.

tl;dr: Regeneration ability comes from being exposed to the Time Vortex. Normally, Gallifreyans are the only ones who gain the ability, thus becoming Time Lords, but it can rarely happen to humans as well. Thirteen is the normal limit for Time Lords, probably less for humans. Crash Bandicoot can have at least twenty.

  56. wolfpax181 on July 19th, 2013 12:12 pm

Okay, how far back should I start so I can embrace Dr Who and no longer be massively confused by half the things said about it? I'm asking you because you seem pretty knowledgeable on it.

  57. Uzumakiclan43 on July 19th, 2013 12:31 pm

You can hop in at any random point (if it's not the continuation of a story arc, that was one of my mistakes when I first started watching, or drags a plot point from its 50-year-old history back to the surface at random) and get hooked, since it covers a wide array of genres and subgenres. The episode that got me, as well as my mother hooked into the series was "Blink". (Not really myself, that was just one of the episodes that got me hooked-the others were "Rose", and my second personal favorite behind "Blink", "The Unquiet Dead").

I can't read the copyrights at the bottom. They need to be at least as big as the Earthbound text is right now.

  61. madtinkerer on July 20th, 2013 12:01 am

The convenient thing about Doctor Who is that unlike a lot of post-Babylon 5 / X Files science fiction, the writers are violently against the idea of "canon" itself.

The writers can and often will include as many subtle references to alien races and certain events as they can get away with, while inventing new things almost every episode. Some episodes and storylines are paid more respect by some writing teams than others. So if you're familiar with Classic Who, all of the New Who series (started in 2005), the spin-offs, the radio shows, the novels, the comics, the comedy sketches the current team did before they started writing for Dr. Who, etc, etc, you will be able to understand more of the winks, nods, references, and so on. But a lot of it contradicts a lot else. Sometimes these contradictions are explained, and some have multiple explanations. Sometimes the writers make mistakes or hate a particular idea so they deliberately write something in to show that it's definitely not true for that episode.

Some things are considered fairly sacred. Most of the storylines dealing with Gallifrey, the Time Lords, the Doctor's history with his own race (Gallifreyans), and the off-screen Time War are kept mostly consistent. Much of these facts are established in the Classic series, but you'll have to watch hours and hours to get through it all, or just consult one of the many reference sources like I did.

But the best way to watch it is to pick one of the classic serials, or one of the New Who seasons, and start from the beginning of the serial / season. They're mostly pretty self-contained, and the Doctor is excellent at exposition.
