Scumbag Nurse Joy

Is this part of the scumbag meme, or is this more of a Pokemon first world problem?
Either way, even with free healthcare I can’t help but get mad mashing the A button at the Pokemon Center.

I don't always button mash my games but when I do it's usually at the poke center and… not very effective. YEAHHHHHHHH—-- (boot to the head) ow!

Now, now, it's not so bad. It just leaves me more time to stare at her (now much more prominent) melons.

    Wait what?

Don't mash the A button shawn, trust me, you'll be wanting to mash the B button for sure.

  13. ibbolia on January 17th, 2012 11:19 pm

Wh-what? Are we still on "hot"?

  14. ibbolia on January 17th, 2012 11:19 pm

Weirdly this was timed after the site crashed for me. I thought it was on purpose.
[EDIT] I meant a legitimate crash, not the blackout.

  15. ChemicalKirby on January 17th, 2012 11:20 pm

Hit the A button to first speak with her, but use the B button to skip the speech so that when she's down talking, you can't talk to her again.

I just saved you hours of your life, your welcome.

Kids these days! Blasting through such small amounts of dialogue boxes and yet they still feel held up. Why in my day we had to read through 10 metric f**k-tons of dialogue just to find the smallest hint of where the next plot device was. Sometimes we would get bizarre messages such as "Dodongo dislikes smoke" and "I am Error." Some would outright lie! We would travel through 15 miles of wilderness just to speak to a witch to figure out so that we can figure out how to class change and by god we liked it.

  21. VyseRogueKing on January 17th, 2012 11:39 pm

uh, first WOW, second why am I not surprised by this from you anymore, is that a bad thing? suddenly the sexkips seems pretty mild compared to this (ps: I think in one episode they said all officer Jennys and Nurse Joys are related, so you just posted lesbian incest)

  35. Seanhl on January 18th, 2012 10:18 pm

everyone, let's make the +1 train, choo choo

  36. SEGA Uranus on January 18th, 2012 10:32 pm

I'm pretty sure the Nurse Joys are related to the other Nurse Joys and the Officer Jennys are related to the other Officers Jennys. So this isn't incest.

  39. Seanhl on January 18th, 2012 10:47 pm

are you sure, I swear in one episode they talked about how jennys and joys are cousins, not just to other jennys and joys, but between families, (I liked to imagine they are all either clones and only claim to be cousins, or there are a lot of Mendelian dominant traits and polygamy is more common and accepted than in "to love-ru")

  40. Mindlessinvalid on January 18th, 2012 10:50 pm

Anyone who wasn't 18 as of the end 2010 has no right to make opinions on videogames. Now before you guys -1 storm hear me out. The idea of an opinion is less about having a preference and more about having reasons for the preference. Anyone is allowed to have a preference, because it's an expression of liking or disliking something. An opinion is where you can supply reasons for your preference and refine it into a statement of judgement, which objectifies the preference somewhat (but not completely).

The Rule of 7s is a psychological concept that a human mind develops in 7 year cycles. Cycle 1 (from birth to age 7) is the cycle of subjectivism, we learn morality and preferential reasoning (I like this but not this) during this time. Cycle 2 (7 to 14) is experiential development, we learn to figure out why we like the things we do. Cycle 3(17 to 21) is the crystallization of consciousness, we learn to factor in abstractly related things into our arguments. Cycle 4 (21 to 28) is when we have enough experience to back up the judgments and assertions of value we make.

Because modern gaming was in its infancy in the mid to late 80's, anyone who wasn't 18 as of 2010 wasn't even past cycle 1 during the time when most of the master pieces of gaming were released, let alone during the mainstreaming of gaming. This means that unless they actively went back and played older games during their 2nd cycle, the damage from hype marketing and mainstream mass production of mediocre games hadn't been mitigated.

So basically it's a psychological argument for telling 12 year old online shooter noobs to piss off, because they've got mental damage from the advent of Hype Marketing. I'd make a more complete argument, but this is the longest I can justify making this post before TL;DNR becomes the default response.

  41. Mindlessinvalid on January 18th, 2012 10:53 pm

more like ripe round mangos (+1 to the one who can cite the name of the movie where the british teenager spends 14 minutes trying to find an appropriate analogy for a girls breasts. The scene was concluded with his friend saying: "can't we stop talking about tits?")

  45. VyseRogueKing on January 19th, 2012 1:28 am

I personally found that to be an interesting read and honestly wouldn't have minded if you went on longer. It will definitely help me understand why kids are as they are these days even if only a little especially when it comes to gaming.

However. I was 17 1/2 at the end of 2010! Am I one of these shooter noobs? Do I shout obscenities retardly over a mic at people I don't know? Is everything I love just some shallow ploy to get my wallet? I'm not sure I can trust myself anymore…

  46. BTSnoogans on January 19th, 2012 1:35 am

I can imagine that going down.
Oak: Are you a boy or a girl?

Oak: Are you a boy or a girl?
    Player: What?
Oak: Are you a boy or a girl?

Don't look at me like that, you were all thinking it too.

  55. Mindlessinvalid on January 19th, 2012 1:26 pm

The 18 by 2010 bit was pulled from another related sociology concept, and I picked that date because it proved to be a relatively workable benchmark. It was by no means a hard cut-off date, the real message was that being in cycle 1 and early cycle 2 during and after the Hype Marketing storm from the xbox/ps2/Gamecube era was hazardous to a person's ability to form legitimate opinions on video games.

If you were raised on junk food, you couldn't fully appreciate an Epicurean meal. If you were raised on Dubstep, you wouldn't be able to appreciate music.

Cycles 1 and 2 are the parts of a person's life where they start being able to learn forming reasons for their preferences. This doesn't mean that they WILL learn how to form those justifications. If the kid grows up with a large selection of largely indistinct experiences then their ability to make judgments on matters relating to those experiences is stunted pretty heavily later in life.

Indoctrination theory is an over specialized concept that utilizes the rule of 7s. If you control a child's experiences up until the age of 7, you can control how they'll grow up. That rule applies differently for each cycle, but it's still a matter of what they were exposed to and when.

This one time, I was skipping Joy speaking, and it was taking forever. Then, when I went to look at my Pokemon, my Blaziken had a status. I was "WTF?" so I checked it out……he got PokeAIDS…….

    Pokérus.

It actually strengthens your Pokémon's stat growths (via double EV gain, if you care about that sort of thing). And it's a 1 in 20,000 chance the disease occurs.

Unless, of course, you get it from Gary. You heard right, ladies.

    Good movie.
Y'know, most Pokémon movies are good. It's the anime that's going downhill (and has so for the last 5+ years). It's not necessarily BAD yet, but it's stagnant, y'know..?

  67. tinynewtman on January 19th, 2012 10:38 pm

Hey, back in your day, you had two options:
    1. You had next to no dialogue at all, and you had to learn all your controls without any hand-holding.
    2. You had a whole ton of text, all of which was plot-centered.
I'd like you to tell me how much of those plot text boxes you actually wanted to skip. Nowadays, some of the text is actually redundant, and so you would want to skip past those redundant elements.

The THEORY among fans is that the Don George, Nurse Joy, and Officer Jenny families are all somehow related to each other. What is FACT as stated by the show is that they're all on good terms with each other.

  72. Pupsrus13 on January 22nd, 2012 4:11 pm

  73. AfroKirby64 on January 29th, 2012 9:43 pm

I spend 68% of play time in Pokemon Platinum talking to Nurse Joy. My enjoyment of one of my favorite games is always ceasing because of her. That cold-as-stone hearted bitch. SHE wanted my favorite pokemon team (Absol, Mismagius, Gardevoir, Umbreon, Seviper, and Darkrai) to be mortally wounded! That sadistic, un-penetrable smile on her face! I want to punch her! No, I want fatality! I want a knife and rope! I want to stab her several times (representing the times I talk to her during each visit, both to heal my pokemon and accidentally), then wrap her fragile little neck in rope, no, barbed wire, tie it into a knot on a solid object, and throw her out her window, snapping her neck! YES! Perfect! Tonight, Nurse Joy's going to be the one crying tears of blood!
