This raises the question that has been on my mind for quite a while; what IS an RPG?
I know, you know and everybody knows by now it stands for Role-Playing Game (also Rocket-Propelled Grenade but this isn't the matter at hand).
But what is a "Role-Playing Game"? Is it being a silent protagonist clad in green, rolling around claiming pieces of golden cheese? Is it fighting gods and angels and giant mechs with over-sized swords and gravity-defying hairstyles?
But seriously… what makes a game an RPG? Non-linear story? Quests? Playing different characters? The ability to have the game develop differently from a play-through to another? Having statistics that shows and increase as your character gains experience? Having interactions with other players/NPCs? Seeing your character grow up, mature and learn more about his world, and himself?
I currently work in a video game store, and I am totally lost as to the definition of RPG. When people who aren't too much into gaming ask me, "but what is 'RPG'?" I actually am kinda confused.
What is RPG to you?

But if it's magic, why does it need to bleed? Why can't it instead give itself a bullet-proof shield to prevent tears? More so, if it is a suit, the how do blunt weapons have any effect? Theoretically it would only be hurt by explosions, heat, bullets, and melee weapons that can slash.

Sadly, the Flamethrower is a 2-handed weapon, so unless Pyro had the racial feature of Oversized (thus allowing 2-handed weapons to be wielded as a 1-handed weapon), or had Feats stacked to allow such an ability to exist, there is no way to dual-wield a flamethrower.

I never really understood that whole stereotype. All the Final Fantasy's that I've played, it was pretty clear what gender each character was (except for Kuja… yeah, he's probably the reason why this is still here).

For the most part, it's is to me a story where the main character(s) meet a variety of NPCs and are on a main quest that may constantly change along the way. However, gameplay consists of altering your character via choices, skills, equipment, and/or stats gained through leveling up. There must be a system of stats that make each character different from the rest. However, stats doesn't automatically make an RPG.
The biggest problem with this genre is that it is like metal music. There are a whole hell of a lot of different subgenres (though no one has really made up enough names yet), but no one really knows what the entirity of it is. People who don't play them, think the term RPG refers to the most infamous subgenre (if you can get over the fact that I just related MMOs/JRPGs/Table tops to death metal, you're better than me). People who play them argue about what is and is not "true RPG" (yep, you guys are the same as the YouTubers who complain about true metal). And in the end, it's a very polarizing genre as a whole. Some absolutely love it, while others despise it from the very first moment.
