Halolz.com Second Annual Halolzween Pumpkin Carving Contest!

Hey guys! It’s that time again!
Yep, time for the Halolz video game pumpkin carving contest!

For those new to the site, last year we held a pumpkin carving contest for all Halolz readers! It was actually sort of a last minute thing, but even still we got some fantastic entries and gave away some awesome prizes! And now that we know what we’re doing, this year is going to be even better!

Like last year, our theme for this pumpkin carving contest is simply anything video game related! However entries will be judged based on three criteria: originality, creativity and difficulty. Also this year we will have three judges: myself, Alyssa and a mystery judge!

How to enter:
Step 1: Create a rad video game themed jack-o-lantern.
Step 2: Carve a small visible “H” somewhere on the pumpkin, or make a handwritten sign that says “Halolz.com” to hold up in at least one of the submitted photos (to avoid cheating).
Step 3: Take at least one digital photo (lights on or off or both) and email it to haloween@halolz.com. Be sure to include a name for your pumpkin and your name or nickname that you want shown on the site.
Step 4: All entries must be received by 10pm EST on Oct 29th. (Winners will be announced during the 30th and 31st).

Additional rules and tips:
• If you send in multiple photos of your work we will post the ones we think look best.
• All entries MUST have at least one photo showing the small “H” carved in the pumpkin or the handwritten sign to prevent cheating. There are many video game jack-o-lantern pictures already out there on the internet and if you do not do one of these two things we have to  assume the pumpkin is not your own work.
• Entries that use a pre-made carving template (like the ones Scott gives out every year) will be accepted, but it will strongly hurt your originality and creativity scores.
• Painted pumpkins will be accepted but they must still involve carving in some way.
• Non-video game themed pumpkins will be accepted but they are ineligible to win.

Oh right, and how could I forget… once again there will be prizes courtesy of Ninja-Bot!

Prizes:
First Place

Two Girls, One-Up T-Shirt
Falcon Lunch T-Shirt
This Is How I Roll T-Shirt

That's right, this year you get a whole two weeks to create your best carved pumpkins! Can't wait to see what we get this year!

  2. RayzaB on October 16th, 2009 10:42 am

Aw yeah! I love those things!

  3. Taiho on October 16th, 2009 10:57 am

  4. TCC on October 16th, 2009 1:58 pm

  5. Masterluigi452 on October 16th, 2009 2:07 pm

    Ah I remember this…
The last year's winner was Samus Pumpkin.
I would love to carve a pumpkins, but I'm pretty sure my parents won't be buying it this year.
They say that it's hard to clean after finishing it….

  6. Tenck on October 16th, 2009 2:39 pm

I am so gonna start Buildin a Sentry-pumpkin.
    Or perhaps erecting a dispenser-pumpkin…

  7. TCC on October 16th, 2009 3:14 pm

is paulrus going to do a pumpkip remake?

  8. MrRaccoon on October 16th, 2009 3:38 pm

A pumpkin in a costume? That would be awesome

  9. MrRaccoon on October 16th, 2009 3:39 pm

Does any kind of pumpkin count? Cuz it's hard to find those orange ones here =P

  10. Paulrus-Keaton? on October 16th, 2009 4:06 pm

Nah. I don't think i'll have time to even carve a pumpkin.

  11. Paulrus-Keaton? on October 16th, 2009 4:10 pm

Last year, my pumpkin was carved from the last pumpkin at the flower store. Then I used a custom-made template to carve out the Mudkips while I watched MST3K on DVD. Good times.

But this year, college and work may prohibit me from carving a new one. But never fear. I have some ideas that I may draw out and stick on my dA. Hopefully Shawn would put them up too. Hint hint.

Mmm… pumpkin contest, and here I am thousands of miles away from any pumpkins.

my recent lack of activity exlpained -- Very busy, very stressful times leading up to my first deployment in iraq.

And let me say, this keyboard SUCKS ASS.

  15. MasqueNoMercy on October 16th, 2009 5:59 pm

dont hit it too hard with the wrench

  16. MasqueNoMercy on October 16th, 2009 6:02 pm

    go buy one pumpkin
then buy a pack of garbage bags
do all the carving on top of one of the garbage bags (either the side, or open it up and then flatten it so the pumpkin is basically in the bag but the bag is flat)
when done, either close it, flip it inside out, or throw everything into a second garbage bag

  17. Tenck on October 16th, 2009 6:06 pm

what, you mean not everything is built by swinging pipe-wrenches aggressively at it? Don't be crazy. The engi has 11 hard science PhDs you know, I think he knows how to build stuff.

  18. Shawn Handyside on October 16th, 2009 6:14 pm

Sure, any kind of pumpkin will work!

  19. Lekonua on October 16th, 2009 6:32 pm

I will definitely 100% consider possibly entering. Just need an awesome idea.

  20. Badonk on October 16th, 2009 7:21 pm

Ha! Awesome ideas is what i have! To sam's club!! (5 pack ftw!)

  21. Darkangelsv1 on October 16th, 2009 7:38 pm

    2 small questions.
1 -- Will people outside the U.S. be eligible to participate/win?
2 -- Do Halloween WATERMELONS count?

  22. Leo058 on October 16th, 2009 7:43 pm

    I'll enter, for sure.
    Now I need a kick-ass idea…

  23. Shawn Handyside on October 16th, 2009 8:28 pm

Yep! You can pretty much do anything with any number of pumpkins!

  24. Shawn Handyside on October 16th, 2009 8:29 pm

    1. International entries are indeed eligible!

    2. I guess pretty much any fruit will count, as long as it's carved!

  25. Shawn Handyside on October 16th, 2009 8:30 pm

Mmmm… that's a good question. I would have to say that judging will be based primarily on the pumpkin, but I suppose outside factors like costumes or props could add to your score.

  26. Shawn Handyside on October 16th, 2009 8:31 pm

That's a pretty good idea… I usually just carve them on newspaper and throw the newspaper away at the end. Still gets messy tho.

  27. Shawn Handyside on October 16th, 2009 8:32 pm

Yep any kind of pumpkin should be fine as long as it's carved.

  28. Daifuku on October 16th, 2009 8:54 pm

Iraq's cake at this point in the game. You'll have it easy there :3
Only thing you'll really have to worry about is the heat.

Also, I'm away from pumpkins too D: I has an awesome idea!

  29. Daifuku on October 16th, 2009 8:54 pm

    Wal-Mart Hyes!

  30. Daifuku on October 16th, 2009 8:55 pm

Halolzween is just not the same without the pumpkipz :/

  31. Daifuku on October 16th, 2009 8:56 pm

  32. Daifuku on October 16th, 2009 8:56 pm

  33. Daifuku on October 16th, 2009 8:58 pm

    Hmm….I'll see if i can…"aquire" a pumpkin of my own ^^

  37. BlueChameleon on October 16th, 2009 9:49 pm

I wish I could, I mean I had so many ideas from the last 12 months…but I'm going on holiday very soon until Haloween, and I won't be able to get a pumpkin until then, so no I'm afraid |:(

  38. BurnoutSpartan on October 16th, 2009 10:48 pm

If someone doesn't make a Falcon pumpkin He will be angry and no longer show us his moves.

Not me I suck at carving pumpkins

  39. MrRaccoon on October 16th, 2009 10:59 pm

    To office depot!
    I need more clips =P

  40. TheAceOfSkulls on October 16th, 2009 11:45 pm

Then it will be better than any normal pumpkin. Afterall, just use the Deadpool comparison: "Yeah, but can it explode? Didn't think so."

  41. Badonk on October 16th, 2009 7:58 pm

Question! Can we use more then one pumpkin, it will be once piece but would involve 2 or 3, smaller ones at that, only one big one.

  42. Daifuku on October 17th, 2009 6:44 am

"Did you get that thing I sent ya?" :p

  50. Daifuku on October 17th, 2009 4:13 pm

I'll try my damndest to find some type of carveable fruit or enough C-4 to make a pumpkin. And if i get the C-4 you can bet your ass it's getting lit on FIRE!!!

  51. Daifuku on October 17th, 2009 4:15 pm

i'M GONNA MAKE THE SPREADER! (sorry, caps lock)

  61. Roth on October 25th, 2009 5:19 pm

I made a Vaati pumpkin a few years ago. I painted the purple cap and the blue hair, carved the one eye and stuff…. I wish I could submit that, but there's no "H." I can assure you it's nowhere to be seen on the internet, but I doubt there will be any exceptions to the rules made. *sigh*.
